Anytime you or a loved one is faced with a medical problem and may have to spend time in the hospital, it’s a good idea to look into staying at home instead. There are many benefits to staying in your own home when you are healing, including a faster healing time, being more comfortable in your surroundings, and an increased feeling of independence. When you work with a company to provide you the professional help you need to stay at home and heal, you are going to be relying on a live-in nurse to take care of you. While you may think that you know everything about live-in nurses and how they can ensure that you or your loved one heals from a certain medical condition, there are a few things you may not know.

What You Need to Provide Your Live-In Nurse

It is not enough to simply offer your live-in nurse the sofa and hope that they will be happy staying at your home and helping you heal. After all, they may be moving into your home for a few weeks, which means you will need to make sure they are as comfortable as possible. When you work with a company like Consultus Care, they will generally give you all the information you need about what you need to provide your live-in nurse, but for most people you will need to provide a number of facilities. Your live-in nurse will need a private room as well as access to all amenities in the home, including an area to store and eat food.

If you have more than one live-in nurse at your home at the same time, they will both need a separate place to stay. This can be two separate rooms in the home or one in the home and the other in the home of a nearby family member.

What Hours Your Nurse Will Have

If you need a lot of overnight care, you may need more help than simply a live-in nurse, as they require time to sleep as well. Being woken up and needed during the night will usually result in an additional charge, but your live-in nurse will otherwise work twelve hours a day, seven days a week. This includes a two-hour break each day, and when this break will occur will be decided between the nurse and the client. There is the opportunity to pay for overnight help and additional hours during the day.

Getting the medical care you need is important, and hiring a live-in nurse is a great way to ensure that you are taken care of. No matter who needs the professional help, knowing what to expect when hiring a live-in nurse will keep you from experiencing any surprises.
